About

Barbara Beam

Barbara Beam has been a high school English teacher for what seems like hundreds of years. She has taught World Lit., Introduction to Lit., and British Lit., but her favorite is American Lit. because she likes the Puritan witch hunts, the Emerson hippies, and Jay Gatsby's parties. She has taught over 3000 students and has only been threatened twice. Beam helps us all realize that we must learn to laugh at ourselves and our circumstances to survive the obstacles we each must face.  She has written thousands of songs, several screenplays and theater scripts, and a few novels.

Although Beam is still teaching, she is available for speaking engagements. She is an outstanding teacher, who would have won the teacher of the year four different times at three different schools, but she threatened to slit the tires of anyone who voted for her, so she finished runner-up four times.  She is qualified to speak on an endless number of subjects (see the Booking Request tab). She has recently become an expert in publishing and marketing her books as well.

“I never enjoyed The Canterbury Tales very much in school, but when I saw the musical, The Road to Canterbury, by Barbara Beam, I realized what all the fuss was about for the last 3,000 years! I understood why that book has been so popular because when I saw Beam's version, it finally made sense.!
